Our History

In 1983, Jack Hornsby Electric, Inc. began with a vision and a lot of determination around the Hornsby kitchen table. After years on the road as a journeyman electrician with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Jack Hornsby was ready to stop traveling and start building something lasting for his career and family. With the support of his wife, Sandra, the couple launched the business from their home in West Tennessee. Sandra even earned her master electrician’s license to help grow the company side-by-side with Jack!

From the beginning, it was a family effort. Their daughters, Jill and Judy, pitched in as teenagers, delivering parts and helping out wherever they could. Jack and Sandra poured everything back into the company — working hard, saving diligently, and staying rooted in their values of grit, faith, and family.

Four decades later, JHE is still proudly family-owned and operated. The company has become a trusted name in West Tennessee, with completed major projects for businesses like the Kirkland Cancer Center, Walmart, Best Buy, City of Jackson, Union University, Jackson-Madison County School System, and the Jackson Ballpark.
Leadership has now passed to the next generation with Jill (Hornsby) Wade serving as CEO. Her husband, Mark, joined the team as an estimator and project manager — continuing the tradition of partnership that Jack and Sandra started. Three of Jack’s grandchildren and three great-nephews are now part of the company as well, ensuring that the legacy of hard work and family dedication will carry on for years to come.

Jill Hornsby Wade

CEO

Jill grew up with Jack Hornsby Electric, starting in the industry as a child by gathering materials and highlighting counts on blueprints. She officially stepped into her career at JHE in May 2000. A graduate of Jackson State’s four-year apprenticeship program with TCAT, Jill has built her career on a strong technical foundation paired with a natural talent for leadership and problem-solving.

As CEO, Jill oversees contract execution, HR, business development, bid input and review, insurance, and technology innovations. She helps drive the company forward by ensuring the team has the resources they need to succeed – essentially handling everything except putting conduit in the wall.

Jill’s favorite part of her work is seeing projects come to life and celebrating the success of the team that makes it all possible. She loves finding solutions, overcoming challenges, and watching people thrive in their roles.

Outside the office, Jill enjoys renovations, remodeling, and house flipping. She’s especially drawn to the vision and design elements of a project—less decorating, more imagining what a space could be.

Favorite Projects: Jackson City Hall, Kirkland Cancer Center, and Pope Elementary School.
